This non-credit bearing course is an introduction to academic writing. It develops the general, core academic English language knowledge and skills required when undertaking postgraduate level study with a particular focus on writing.
It is appropriate for students who have not previously studied in an English language academic environment and who have not previously followed an extensive academic English course before.
It develops knowledge of the organization, style, grammar, vocabulary, expressions and conventions typical of a range of academic texts such as essays, critical reviews and reports.
Students attending the course have the opportunity to receive detailed feedback on their work through an online academic writing consultation.
You can choose to follow this course in Semester 1 before progressing to the Academic English for Postgraduate Research Writing in Semester 2 or 3.
Alternatively the course can be followed in Semester 2 and then Academic English for Postgraduate Research Writing can be taken during the Summer Semester for those planning to be writing up their research over this period. This option is available in on-campus or off-campus (distance) mode.
Faculty of Business postgraduate students SHOULD NOT enrol on this course unless they cannot join the academic business module (U70313). Please contact your course administrator or academic adviser for information on this.
